Culturally-responsive pedagogy begins with learning about our students’ lives, their community structures, their cultural heritage, their families, their histories. Because if learning is the relationship-building process between outer knowledge (academic content) and inner knowledge (lived experience), then knowing what that the learners’ inner knowledge consists of is the starting point.
